Mixtape Review: David E. Beats & The White House Band’s Renaissance
The New York based David E. Beats and his White House Band formally release their Mick Boogie sponsored mixtape, The Renaissance today. The one man band (no,literally) produced, wrote, and sings on The Renaissance and has a different style compared with the rest of the hip hop field. Incorporating hip hop, sped up soul samples and rock/alternative fused production, David blazes through the project’s 13 tracks and leaves something for everybody. Check out what I had to say below and also check out the single of the day, Beware from the Renaissance project.

Killer Mike & El-P’s R.A.P. Music Review

Killer Mike has a lot of ferociousness running through his veins, I mean hell, just listen to any of his solo work, it’s there to witness! But it’s amazing how the same vision, and articulation can be slightly altered and enhanced by “tweaking,” something so simple as the style of production Mike rhymes on. Enter Company Flow producer El-P, Mike and the Brooklyn native unexpectedly come together with their new joint album, R.A.P. Music. Is the tweaking done for the better or worse? Check out my review below.

REKS’ Straight No Chaser Album Review
I been listening to Reks since the release of his of R.E.K.S. album last year and his work with Statik Selektah. In 2012, the two Massachusetts’ natives go to bat for the East Coast and turn and burn on Straight No Chaser. Statik produced the entirety of the album as Reks sheds light on relationships turned sour, the need for men to play bigger roles in their children’s lives and more of the gritty street lyricism Reks is known for. Check out what I had to say about Straight No Chaser below.

Greatest Hits compilations often suck, let’s be real about that. Bloated double, or sometimes triple albums of our favorite artist that doesn’t truly reflect the impact the artist had on music, and people’s memories. Def Jam this week released Icon, a collection of music from Darkman X’s stint with the legendary Def Jam records (98-03) that spanned 5 albums and numerous number 1 records. Does this compilation suck like the rest? Listen and find out, I think you like me will be surprisingly wowed by what songs Def Jam selected to be on Icon. Check out what’s in my headphones below.
