The Hip Hop Project’s Gabe Mendoza caught up with Chicago Producer, A-Villa who recently released his debut album, Carry On Tradition on Closed Sessions recordings. The new album was several years in the making and features some of hip hop’s best emcees from yesterday and today. A-Villa talks about starting out producing in Chicago and finding the courage to take his sound from the basement to the head phones and speakers of emcees from across the country. Gabe and A-Villa also get in to several songs off the album including the blockbuster Colosseum featuring Wu-Tang’s Inspectah Deck and fun story about receiving a call from Ghostface Killah. Although the Summer quickly came and went, for us Fall babies, the month of September through November are quite enjoyable as the pace of life seems to slow down a bit. Enter Chicago emcee Emil who drops off his Almost October EP to much delight and fanfare. The 6 track EP features the gold star track, Flight for which everyone should check out. The mood of this project fits right in to spirit of this time of the year when we look forward to longer nights and shorter days.

Minneapolis is quickly growing its hip hop roots from Rhymesayers Entertainment to the incredible collection of emcees in the group, Doomtree. With a lot of pressure to live up to standards of those mentioned, Young South has entered in to the Minnesota hip hop scene this year with the release of his debut album, I’m a Problem. One of the singles featured from the album, Turn Up really caught my ear this past week, and shows a great potential for the young man who grew up in the south, and now is chasing his dreams up North.
