@Illsideradio Podcast: Gil Scott Departs, LL Returns, Amber Rose Has Bad Vibe

The Planet, along with Chicago’s own Square-One of B-Side Radio, have joined forces to bring you the week in review in Hip-Hop and current events, along with the occasional special guest and some music to keep you moving through your day.

With a heavy heart, this week’s IllSide Radio bids farewell to lyrical legend Gil-Scott Heron, spoken word master whose records influence Hip-Hop to this very day. We take a look at his body of work and what his legacy means to music and the community.

Could positivity sell again? Why has his music faded to obscurity despite its presence in the compositions of artists like Kanye West? Will Hip-Hop ever mature to the point where its older artists can take the level of social responsibility higher within their music?

Amber Rose recently graced the cover of Vibe Magazine but all is not sweet. She put the mag on blast a few days ago for the cove story, claiming there were things in there that she wasn’t asked and impugning on Vibe’s credibility. Who’s right? Who’s not and does it matter when your fame has come so easily?

Uncle L, James Todd Smith returned to the mic recently on a track with Busta Rhymes. His credible performance after such a long time away brings whispers of more work and wonders about why he doesn’t make music more often. Is it worth it to LL to risk his legacy? At this point is he even freer to create without scrutiny and with lowered expectations? We talk all this and more on IllSide Radio.

So sit back, relax and take a ride on the Ill Side.
