Revisiting the classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx on Vocalo.Org

The word ‘classic’ is thrown around quite a lot, especially in hip hop to pump up and promote a rapper’s new album. But when you stack today’s “classics” against one of the best records ever conceived, people would be better served coming up with a different word to describe today’s classic versus those of the past. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx seriously changed the game, the lyrics, the slang, the style, the direction, the production, EVERYTHING changed after Raekwon’s classic (appropriately used) dropped on August 1, 1995. This week we salute the album that caused a minor beef with Bad Boy records and the Notoroious B.I.G., introduced mafia aliases, tapped Cappadonna as the unofficial 10th member of the Wu Tang Clan and still continues to stand the test of time. Happy 16th anniversary! Now where is my purple tape at?
