Throwback Song: NO I.D.’s State to State featuring @Common & Dug Inf

“Chi Town/where we don’t fight over coasts/because the one that’s in the middle is the one that sees the most” – NO I.D.

Long before Kanye championed him as his mentor, long before Death of Autotune, and long before the Def Jam Presidency, No I.D. put a solo album out in 1997 on Relativity Records.. The album, Accept your own and Be Yourself [The Black Album]  went largely unnoticed outside of the 312 area code, but in my opinion it is a album worth hearing over and over. Today’s song of the day wasn’t even a single from the album (Sky Is The Limit was, I didn’t like the title because it came out way too close to Biggie’s Sky is the Limit in 1997) but State to State featuring Common and Dug Infinite. The trio had recently collaborated on Com’s One Day It’ll All Make Sense album, and the chemistry between the three should had continued on for years to come, sadly it didn’t. No I.D. Cutting a sample from DMC’s voice and dropping lines about staying out of the East/West Coast beef, Common trashing lames, and holding the city down like busy intersections and Dug Infinite closing one of the greatest collaborations in Chicago hip hop history by saying something, never nothing. Travel from state to state in 4 minutes below.
