Talib Kweli has been called a conscious rapper, an underground rapper, a backpack rapper.. Whatever you wanna call him, he simply says he’s a man who stands up for what he believes is right and he puts that message in his music. The prolific artist joined Jesse Menendez on The MusicVox and spoke about playing with a live band, his upcoming record, Prisoner of Conscious, what motivates his politically and socially conscious lyrics, and commented on his recent dialogue with Lupe Fiasco about the affect lyrics and art have on our communities.

Catch Talib playing in Chicago with a live band this Saturday, 4/13 at Double Door

The MusicVox airs M-F 6-8PM on 89.5 (NWI) / 90.7 FM (CHI) /
